Management of colorectal lesions and lesions of the extraperitoneal rectum

Recently, during the last Pan-American Trauma Congress in Lima, Peru, we had the opportunity to observe that despite the different guidelines and directives for the management of both intraperitoneal colorectal injuries (IPCR) and extraperitoneal rectal injuries (EPRI), when discussing real scenarios with colleagues who work in the
management of such injuries daily, there is still a powerful tendency to act conservatively, i.e. repairing the injuries associated with colostomies, despite the evidence in the literature.
